Tan Sri Datuk Amar Steve Shim Lip Kiong began his service with the Judiciary on 1 March 1992 when he was appointed a Judicial Commissioner in the Sibu High Court. On 1 August 1992, he was appointed a High Court Judge and served in both the Kuching and Kuala Lumpur High Courts. Tan Sri Shim is a panel member of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration as well as the Panels of Conciliators & Arbitrators, International Centre for Settlement of Investment disputes.

 

Tan Sri Shim was the former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak. He was appointed to this position on 1 September 2000 and served until he retired from service on 19 July 2006.

 

Tan Sri Shim was appointed as an Independent Director and Chairman of Pacific Trustees Berhad on 20 October 2009.

He was a member of the Malaysia Bar Council until 2013. He was appointed a Commissioner of Oath by the Ketua Hakim Negara (Lord President) on 30 August 1990. He was elected to the Board of Governors of the Malaysian Canada Business Council (MCBC) for 1997/1998, serving as Chairman of its External/Internal Relations Committee...

Mr. Paul Cheah previously sat on the Boards of the Malaysian subsidiaries of two foreign listed multinational companies, namely Bombardier (M) Sdn Bhd and SNC-Lavalin (M) Sdn Bhd. He also served as Chairman of the Association of Trust Companies, Malaysia in 2005 to 2006.

 

Mr. Paul Cheah is currently a Director of Pacific Trustees Berhad.

Ms. Ong Kim Eng was previously a Personal Assistant at Pacific Aerospace Sdn Bhd, arranging appointments for the Managing Director to meet up with foreign aerospace and aircraft suppliers. She also liaised with the Company Manager to sign service agreements with clients.

 

Ms. Ong is currently a Director of Pacific Trustees Berhad and a member of the Audit Committee. She is responsible for the Company’s finance, human resources and talent management requirements, besides overseeing the private wealth and corporate trust businesses.

Pacific Trustees Singapore Ltd is governed and managed by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors of the Trust Company is committed to upholding good corporate governance practices to protect the interests of the Company’s shareholders.
The Board is collectively responsible for the long-term success of the Trust Company. The Board works with Management to achieve this objective and the Management remains accountable to the Board.


The primary role of the Board is to protect and enhance long-term shareholders’ value and to ensure that the Trust Company is run in accordance with best international management and corporate governance practices, appropriate to the needs and development of the Trust Company.


Apart from its statutory duties and responsibilities, the Board oversees the management and affairs of the Trust Company and approves important business decisions involving the Company’s corporate strategy and directions. The Board has the overall responsibility for reviewing the strategic plans and performance objectives, financial plans and annual budget, key operational initiatives, major funding and investment proposals, financial performance reviews and corporate governance practices.


In delegating responsibility for the day-to-day operation and leadership of the Trust Company to the Resident Managers ("RMs") and the Management team, the Board has processes and systems in place to ensure that significant issues, risks and major strategic decisions are monitored and considered at Board level.


All the Board members are actively engaged and play an important role in ensuring good corporate governance within the Trust Company. Visits to the Company’s business premises are also arranged to acquaint the non-executive Directors with the Company’s operations and ensure that the Directors are familiar with the Company’s business, policies and governance practices.


We have four (4) directors with varied experience and qualifications. Among them are Former Chief Judge of Sabah & Sarawak and Federal Court Judge; Former Attorney General Malaysia and formerly from Monetary Authority Singapore (MAS) and various foreign banks and former Advocates & Solicitor.
